Crab Ring Trap

crab ring trap (or hoop net) is a flat, collapsible crabbing tool made of two metal rings connected by mesh netting. 2 ft width • How it works: It lies completely flat on the ocean or river floor so crabs can easily walk onto it to eat the bait in the center. • The catch: When you pull the rope up quickly, the outer ring lifts to instantly form a deep basket, trapping the crabs inside as you haul it to the surface. • Best use: Because it has no closed roof, it must be checked actively every 15 to 30 minutes from piers, bridges, or boats so the crabs don't wander off.
